Block Parties
A block party is an exciting opportunity for residents within a neighborhood to meet one another, foster community pride and just have fun! Follow the steps below to ensure you have best block party:
Step 1: Planning
Form a block party planning committee and determine a date, time and location that works for everyone. Also be sure to delegate responsibilities from the beginning to ensure that one person isn't doing all the work.
Step 2: Register Your Neighborhood
Be sure that your neighborhood group is registered and up to date with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality (ONV). Contact information must be updated once a year. Register or update your registration here. Valid registration with the ONV is required for Block Party Permit fees to be waived. Step 3: Permits
Submit applications for a City of Garland Permit (PDF) and other applicable forms (street closure, signed petitions, etc.). Be sure to follow City of Garland's Code of Ordinances, view special events guidelines here (PDF) Step 3: Permits
Step 4: Resources
Identify available resources within your neighborhood and through the City.
- Block Party Assistance through the Capacity Building Grant - Voluntary Neighborhood Groups Only.
- Block Party Trailer (All registered neighborhood groups).
Step 5: Advertise
Get the word out! Let your neighbors know at least a month in advance of your upcoming block party. Utilize flyers, yard signs, social media and evites and more to ensure everyone knows of this great event. The ONV will print up to 500 black and white copies on colored paper for your block party.
